Description: Lacquered wooden kōgō (incense container) featuring a clever stylized decoration of an insect cage (mushikago). The cage is rendered in thin gold lines which wrap around like a net, with flowers and grasses in black lacquer and the insect rendered in inlaid mother of pearl. Horizontal band of intersecting triangles in gold lacquer at the lower half of the kōgō. With original signed box, inscription reads: insect cage (mushikago) kōgō. *Studied under maki-e master Konaka Toshiyama from April 1967 to March 1971, residing in Yamanaka-cho (Ishikawa Prefecture). Afterwards studied under maki-e master Nomura Daisen from April 1971 to March 1974, living in Kanazawa. From April 1974 he attends class at Kanazawa Art University, Craft and Design, Lacquer department. In March 1975 he completes the program and the next month till now he works as a a maki-e artisan for tea ceremony utensils and living in Yamanaka-cho, Ishikawa prefecture.
Signed:on box, made by Chikuryo (Chikuryo zō) with artist’s seal reading Tsuiki.
